「絵をかく。ただカキタイから。でもなぜだろう？絵はいつからあったのか。そらにかかるニジは絵なのか？ヒトはナゼ絵をかくのだろう。最初に絵の具をつくったのはダレ？しぜんの花の赤、そらの青、みずのミズイロが絵の具の最初？ぼくは絵をかいていると夢中になれる。自分の中に深く深く潜ってゆく気分だ。そんなことを思いながらドロンコの土のあいだにあったクズ鉄をひろってきて絵のようなものにして、もう一度みんなでみてみたい。みてもらおうとつくりました。どうぞ。」 黒田征太郎
本展「絵で行けるとこ」は、黒田征太郎81歳の現在地です。初披露の作品を中心に構成されます。また、新型コロナ禍で塞ぎがちな心に元気を与えること。そして「絵で行けるとこ」を追い求める黒田の渦に、鑑賞者を巻き込むことを目標にしています。その渦は、会場だけにとどまりません。黒田の描いたアイコンを携えて自分の好きな大阪の風景を撮影するタグ付けプロジェクト。小学生たちとの共作では、Osaka Metro阿波座駅が創造と冒険に満ちた場に生まれ変わります。会場、オンライン、街中で「アートがあなたをどこへ連れて行くか」を体験してください。

黒田征太郎｜ Seitaro Kuroda
1939年、大阪・道頓堀に生まれる。
1945年、疎開先の滋賀で終戦を迎える。翌年、父が病死。国と家がいっぺんになくなる。7歳で、小さな妹と弟の父親代わりになる。
1955年、高校を１年で退学し、米軍の揚陸船に乗り込む。 １年半の間に、プサン、マニラ、サイゴンを巡る。船を降り、陸に戻ってもなお、漂流生活が続く。
1962年、早川良雄デザイン事務所に漂着。入所を許されていないにもかかわらず、早川のもとに居座り続ける。そこで、長友啓典と出会う。 1967年29歳で渡米、肉体労働をしながら各地を放浪する。 帰国後、長友啓典と共にデザイン事務所「K２」を設立。日本のグラフィックシーンを席巻する。
1968年、野坂昭如と出会う。その他にも、ミュージシャン、演劇人、作家などとの交流を深め、ジャンルの垣根を鉛筆１本で飛び越える。
1986年からは、山下洋輔に始まり、近藤等則、坂田明、新井英一、中村達也、斉藤和義ら音楽家や詩人、舞踊家と、これまでに1,000回以上のライブペインティングを開催。
1995年の阪神・淡路大震災で被災した神戸には、ライブペインティングや、仮設商店の看板作製などで何度も訪れた。その後も継続的に、被災地に赴いて絵でできる活動を続けている。
81歳になった今もその手は止まらず精力的に制作を続け、現在は、人が捨ててしまった廃材を使った新シリーズに取り組んでいる。

“Draw a picture. Think, feel, why, why do we desire to? Why did humans start drawing? When did a rainbow in the sky become art? What did we expect? I love to immerse myself in painting, diving deep, exploring within. Recently I’ve been looking around for tiny things, small scraps hidden in the mud, picking them up, rinsing them and celebrating them in pictures. I made several for you to see.“

Where art may take you by Seitaro Kuroda (b.1931) features work recent and otherwise, most of which has never been presented in public before. Originally a very collaborative artist (and frankly because of the current COVID-19 fashion) this show will feature two projects outside of the venue, the first, a “tagging” project where anyone can use a fun set of Kuroda’s icons, to tag their favorite places in Osaka. A second collaboration will be working with with local elementary school students to transform Osaka Awaza Station into a place full of creativity and adventure. Experience where art may take you in the venue, online and throughout the city.

Seitaro Kuroda
1939 Born in Dotonbori, Osaka.
1945 Spent final days of the war in evacuation in Shiga. His father became ill and passed away the following year, making him, at age 7, the man of the house to his brother and sisters.
1955 Dropping out of high-school after his first year, he took work on board a US army logistics ship, and traveled between Busan, Manila, and Saigon. A year and a half later, he continued his drifting life on land.
1962 Interned, but never employed at Yoshio Hayakawa Design Office, it was there that he met designer Keisuke Nagatomo.
1967 At the age of 29, traveled across the U.S., doing day labor. At the end of his visa, he returned to Japan, established the design studio K2 with Keisuke Nagatomo, becoming an instant sensation in the Japanese graphic scene.
1968 In addition to his graphic design practice, Kuroda sought out writers, musicians, filmmakers, and others, collaborating on projects in every corner of Japan’s creative scene.
1986 He began live painting, of which he has reputedly completed over 1000 to date, first with jazz musicians Yosuke Yamashita, Toshinori Kondo, Akira Sakata, Eiichi Arai, Tatsuya Nakamura and Kazuyoshi Saito, as well as performances with poets and performers.
1995 Continued his live painting activities in disaster areas, from Kobe in the aftermath of the Great Hanshin earthquake, conducting live paintings, decorating temporary living quarters, shops, and medical facilities, a practice he continues to this day.
Constantly painting, today a vibrant 81 years young, Seitaro continues to energetically produce, currently working on a new series using discarded items as mixed-media.
